Myopia Control Management

Slowing down Myopia Progression

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a vision condition that makes distance objects blurry. Currently 30% of Americans suffer from myopia; and unfortunately it is estimated that by the year 2050, roughly 50% of the world’s population will be affected by this eye condition.

Research shows a link between the rise of myopia can be attributed to more time spent staring at screens and less time outdoors. Myopia begins to develop during early childhood and can rapidly keep progressing until usually about 30 years old. Slowing the progression is important because it can reduce the risk of developing serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and blindness.

At Refocus Modern Eyecare, it is our mission to provide excellent eyecare by protecting your children’s eye health. We are able to manage myopia through multiple treatment programs the keep the level of myopia as low as possible in order to protect and reduce your child’s risk of developing such serious sight-threatening issues.

Misight

Our practice is excited to offer an innovative approach to managing myopia through CooperVision’s Brilliant Futures™ Myopia Management Program. The cornerstone of this program is the MiSight® 1 day contact lenses – the first and only FDA-approved method to slow its progression in children. Misight uses daily disposable soft contact lenses specifically designed to protect your child’s vision.

Children can apply the daily wear, single use contact lenses in the morning, wear them for the recommended 10 or more hours per day, then dispose of them in the evening. Contact us to learn more or schedule an appointment today.

Ortho-K Lenses

Orthokeratology contact lenses are an excellent option for many patients with mild to moderate myopia. They can be used to reduce your dependence on contact lenses and glasses through the day. These custom lenses are inserted at night and removed in the morning allowing you to see clearly throughout the day! Similar to braces/Invisalign for your teeth, ortho-k lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye while you are sleeping allowing you to see clearly when you remove them.  See if Ortho-K is right for your child!

Atropine

This method involves medicated eye drops which safe and effective method to slow and control the progression of myopia. It relaxes the focusing muscles in the eye by blocking the muscarinic receptors with minimal to no side effects. These drops are put in every night before bed. Children still wear glasses and contacts as normal in the day time.
